The Children's Place Story

Our Mission

The Children's Place's mission is to fight against child abuse by bridging the gap between agencies and families. We foster resilient family development through coordinated support, specialized professional training, and proactive community education.

Our History

Professionals in St. Clair County joined together with Community Members to establish The St. Clair County Children's Advocacy Center, known as The Children's Place. Since it's beginning in 1993, The Children's Place has operated with one purpose to help fight against child abuse and advocate for those who have lived through it.

The Children's Place is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with an appointed Board of Directors. The Children's Place is a proud member of The Alabama Network of Child Advocacy Centers and Partner Agency with United Way of Central Alabama.

Thanks to the support of our community, civic groups, churches, and individuals we continue to provide services for children and families in St. Clair County.

The Children’s Place is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is subject to a yearly audit and conforms to generally accepted accounting principles. Several funding sources are used, including, but not limited to: ADECA (Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs), United Way of Central Alabama, state appropriations, program service fees, fundraisers and grants.

The center operates under a set of bylaws and articles of incorporation. The governing body is the Board of Directors which participates actively in decision making for the center.

The CAC Purpose

Child Advocacy Centers or CACs are the ONE place that provides a safe, child-friendly environment for a child that has experienced the trauma of abuse. At The Children's Place we operate as a team to serve these children and their families.

Professionals from local Law Enforcement agencies, Child Protective Services, The District Attorney's Office, and more work together in investigations to develop effective, coordinated strategies unique to the needs of each child.
